1) Keep Informed
Much of what is accepted and
passed around as common wisdom is actually uninformed and often
erroneous. Often Doctors are no better, just passing along
misinformation they learned in medical school. Modern research into
nutrition, exercise and well-being has offered some startling
discoveries. Check out our resources
page and links page to
get started on your journey.

2) Exercise
Intelligently
Most of us do not have the
time or luxury to spend hours everyday at the
gym, nor is that necessarily beneficial. Use your time wisely. Get high
intensity resistance training in at least twice a week but remember
more is not better. Keep these exercise periods short (around 45
minutes or less) and allow 36 hours minimum recovery time. Light
aerobic exercise is something we should strive to do everyday. Don’t
waste you time at a gym on a treadmill or elliptical. Do something with multiple benefits go for a walk
with a friend, do some tai chi, or practice a martial art.
Consider working with a personal trainer to develop an intelligent
exercise regimen but make sure they understand the basics of
intelligent exercise. more

3) Eat Smart
Sun S’su Mo, advisor to several generations of Chinese
emperors said “beware of the poison of the five grains” and “the key to
long life is systematic under-eating”. Do not fill your stomach with
nutritionally empty starches and sugars. Instead focus on nutrient rich
foods. Vegetables, especially dark leafy greens, should be eaten
braised or steamed to make their nutrients accessible. Meat should be
eaten in moderation but it is best not to abstain completely. Protein
and fats are the building blocks of life.

4) Use Supplements Wisely
An ideal diet
would not require supplementation but due to soil mineral depletion and
the extra demands our stressful lifestyles put on us it is advisable to
use organic, naturally derived and whole food supplements. Most people
need to supplement with a probiotic such as
Dr. Ohhira’s, as well as a B complex and some
form of “green food” such as chlorella, spirulina
or grass juice extracts.

5) Actively Relax
Our bodies and minds
operated most efficiently in the climate of relaxation with our being.
Unfortunately for many this is not our normal state. It is important
that we practice being relaxed. One of the ideal ways to foster
relaxation is through the practice of internal gongfu
(qigong, tai chi, yiquan). These
practices allows us to be relaxed in action and exertion rather
than making our relaxation conditional on our environment and
non-action. more

6) Get Outside
Fresh air and sunshine are
the best medicine. Recent research in fact shows that exposure to
sunlight is essential to our health and, ironically, may be one of the
most important ways to avoid cancer.
|
|
7) Have a Positive Attitude
Happy people live longer and
happier lives. We choose to be happy. Cultivate unconditional joy and
see life become a constant source of wealth. This is what Hua Ching Ni refers to as
the Universal Law of energy return.
